EDUCATION - END RELIGIOUS APARTHEID IN OUR SCHOOLS!

The Scottish Unionist Youth places a high priority on education with a focus on higher standards for both teachers and students. We will be campaigning for a reduction in class sizes; promoting better discipline through good citizenship and greater home/school partnerships. We would encourage practical entrepreneurship skills from primary level on - far too many pupils leave school ill-prepared for the workplace. Good practice must be highlighted and used a model for all schools.

Scottish Unionists believe that we should end the divisive and expensive system of religious apartheid in education. All schools should be multi-denominational which bring together children of all faiths and none - you know it makes sense.

OUR SENIOR CITIZENS - THE FORGOTTEN GENERATION

Today's senior citizens have lived through world was, unemployment, poor housing and deprivation. They have raised families in the most difficult of circumstances. It is therefore only right and proper that a civilised nation like ours should give priority to our pensioners. Greatly increase the pension, lift the tax burden on all state and works pensions, those who have made provision for themselves thoughout their working lives should not be penalised for it in their retirement.

Since Labour came to power, they have robbed and plundered British pension funds by a staggering £40billion. Pensioners do not want handouts - they are a proud generation - but they deserve fair play.

EUROPE

Save the Pound, - say no to the Euro! The nation's currency, like it's language, is essential to maintain it's identity and sovereignty. Britain is now the biggest contributor to the European Union, paying £4.3billion per year. Get Britain off the slippery slope which leads to a Federal States of Europe - the ultimate aim of the Eurofanatics.

LAW AND ORDER - ZERO TOLERANCE ON CRIME

There must be a severe crackdown on crime, a proper zero tolerance on offences of all kinds - No Excuses - no trendy gimmicks. Jail sentences for major and serious offences should be served in full and additional time added for misbehaviour rather than reduced for so-called 'good behaviour'. A far heavier police presence on the streets is an essential deterrent for those who make life a misery for decent folk.

HEALTH - THE SICK MAN OF EUROPE

Scotland was once a world leader in the field of medicine yet today our reputation paints a very different picture. Statistics now show that we are the sickest nation in the developed world. Despite promises from Labour, our waiting lists have grown as fast as Pinocchioís nose.

Who could ever have imagined that more Scots would die in hospitals from infections such as MRSA than die on Scotlandís roads?

Unhygienic hospitals are Scotlandís shame and we demand that this matter is tackled now with far more rigourous hygiene standards and far greater accountability.

Scottish Unionists are calling for more doctors, more nurses and more support staff with higher pay, shorter hours and greater flexibility to address this blight on our national health service.
